About

Andrew Johnson is a Fire Protection Engineer with nearly 20 years of specialist experience in high‑hazard fire protection and firefighting systems. His career began at Blaze Manufacturing Solutions in Aberdeen, where he progressed from a threading‑machine operator to 2D draughtsman, Fire Safety Designer, Project Estimator, Fire Protection Engineer, and ultimately Head of Research & Development.

Across these roles, Andrew delivered engineered fire protection solutions for a wide range of high‑risk sectors including Oil & Gas, Marine, Mining, Renewables, Nuclear, and Industrial facilities.

His technical work has centred on the design, analysis, and optimisation of bespoke fire protection systems, including:

Deluge and Foam Deluge Systems

Compressed Air Foam Systems (CAFS)

High‑Expansion Foam Systems

Gaseous Suppression Systems

High‑Pressure Watermist

Deck Integrated Firefighting Systems (DIFFS)

Sprinkler Systems

In recent years, Andrew has served as a technical lead for firefighting systems on the Hinkley Point C project - one of the UK’s most complex and safety‑critical infrastructure programmes. He has acted as one of the project’s fire protection subject‑matter experts, guiding the design, assurance, and integration of more than 100 firefighting systems across the nuclear power plant.

His areas of specialist expertise include:

Transitioning from AFFF to fluorine‑free (F3) foam concentrates

Foam and deluge design + system periodic testing methodologies

Hydraulic calculations, system sizing, and fire pump demand analysis

Transient (water hammer) modelling and mitigation

Foam equipment performance testing and validation

Andrew brings a rare combination of hands‑on system experience, deep technical capability, and leadership in safety‑critical engineering environments—making him a trusted authority in high‑hazard fire protection.
